The teenage elephant was standing alone under a tree in Corbatt taking shelter from the hot sun. He was the tusker of the group, the biggest and strongest. He seemed left out, not eager to go and search for his herd in the Green jungle. He knew the sun would cause his skin to dry out and he wanted to avoid that.
The cool wind was blowing gently, which made the elephant feel at ease as he stood there beneath his tree. As he gazed off into the distance, he could hear a faint call of his herd, calling him to join. The elephant stood listening to the call, but he could not muster the courage to leave his spot of refuge beneath this tree.
He remembered the times when he had been with his herd, searching for food amongst the jungle and how quickly the afternoon had passed. Those were the days of happiness and contentment, the days that he was most alive.
Suddenly, the breeze picked up and blew past the elephant. He then noticed a faint glimmer of hope in his eye, as he watched his herd coming closer and closer in the dense, green jungle. He felt a powerful urge to run out and join them, but he held back, knowing this was the one refuge he had.
Finally, the herd had reached the elephant. As they came closer, the herd's leader, a large matriarch elephant, walked to the tusker and stroked his forehead in a comforting gesture.The elephant felt a wave of love wash over him and he realized he was home. He cheered as he ran out to join his herd and they trotted away, leaving the tusker behind beneath the tree.
He was happy to have found his home and his family once again, but one thing he would never forget was the warmth of being beneath a tree in the hot sun, waiting for his herd to come for him.
